SPH recently wrote the evidence review that recommended that targeted lung cancer screening should be introduced in the UK. The National Screening Committee (NSC) made this recommendation to the Department of Health and Social Care and it has now been implemented. Since the programme started last year, over 5,000 lung cancers have been detected, many at an early stage when there is a high chance of successful treatment.
